HAWAII ROCK CLIMBING GALLERY
The
island of Oahu in Hawaii is a surfer's paradise, but what most
fail to realize is that the North Shore hosts an interesting
collection of rock climbing venues as well. While Hawaii
will never be a destination in itself, climbers vacationing
on the island should seriously consider bringing along a bit
of gear. The bouldering at Waimea Bay is a great way to
spend an afternoon on steep, pumpy basalt and the crag at Mokule'ia
has about 40 bolted routes ranging from 5.7 up to 5.13a.
These climbs tackle tricky, technical arêtes and basalt stem
boxes, reminiscent of the Crooked River Gorge at Smith Rock,
only smaller. These two climbing venues are a great addition
to any trip to the island and are definitely worth a look. |
